We are a small charity formed in June 2010, dedicated to the rescuing and rehoming of abandoned dogs in South Yorkshire. Our aim is to save dogs from the council pounds in Yorkshire and give them a 2nd chance of a happy life.

Each year approximately 100,000 dogs are picked up from our streets.  If they are not microchipped or have any identification they are taken to the local pound.  From this moment the clock starts ticking....the dog only has 7 days before it is in danger of being destroyed. It is at this point the dog must rely on luck....is he in one of the pounds that humanely care for their dogs?  Will his owner find him in time? Or has he been unfortunate enough to be forgotten and forced to live his last few days unwanted and unloved?

A dogs time in the pound will often be spent terrified, alone and confused.  They will sometimes be kept in filthy, squalid condtintions and in some pounds, the dogs won't even be fed the day before they die....why waste the food? It is at this point we try to rescue as many dogs as possible.  However, it is a sad fact that we can't save them all.  This is why we need help from volunteers and funding from the general public to ensure our work continues.  Everyone involved with Willow Dog Rescue is a volunteer so no paid staff!  This means that 100% of donations or funds raised go directly to helping the dogs...guaranteed!

Below is a photo gallery which shows the dogs in our care as well as those that we have rescued and rehomed.  You can also visit our 'Needing a Home' page for more details of the dogs who are looking for their forever home at the moment.

Dedication

We would like to dedicate this website to Willow, Delilah and Stan.  Just a few of Willow Dog Rescue’s rescue cases.

Although we are primarily a dog rescue, our first case was little Willow, a stray cat who came to us pregnant. Willow had an undiagnosed heart problem which only became apparent after she gave birth. Unfortunately there was nothing that could be done and poor Willow died 3 weeks later. The kittens were lovingly hand reared and are now in a happy, safe home together.

Our first official dog rescue was a beautiful Rottweiler named Delilah. We saved her from the pound after she had been abandoned there starved and abused by her owners. Unfortunately Delilah had to be put to sleep due to a serious head trauma she had received in her past. Although we couldn’t cure the physical damage she endured, we are sure the last few months of her life were her happiest.

Stan came to us in November 2011 aged 10 weeks old.  We couldn't send him to the pound as at that time they had an outbreak of Parvo and that would have been a death sentence for such a little chap.  Instead we got him into a foster home and within a week he had found his forever home. Stan was a happy little dog and loved his friend Ollie, a Staffy cross that he lived with.  In January he joined the Willow Dog Walk and thoroughly enjoyed himself. However the beginning of February wasn't good and Stan became ill - he was diagnosed with Kidney Failure and had to be put to sleep. Its a shame that he had only a short life but we know that he was at his happiest. Stan will be missed by everyone at Willow but by his family so much more.

Goodnight Willow, Delilah & Stan x
